Cook, Catering-Eat!

A fully booked-out Patch to Plate Dinner filled up our Barn once again!

It was a great evening joined by families, couples and singles from far and wide.

Our next dinner is set for Saturday, 8. November — it will be a Lasagna Night with Panna Cotta for dessert.


Things are happening in the patch too.

While our offering of veggies is small, we are busy cleaning up the winter crops and getting the beds ready to plant.

We’re also flat out producing seedlings for the coming season.


On the farm, we cut roughly 70 hectares for silage this week. We’re still waiting on the final bale count, but we feel rather blessed to be back in the paddock, preserving feed for our cows.


This week we also did our first catering job. Through Heytesbury Landcare we were asked to supply savoury slices, quiches, and cake for their lunch — it was great to be part of it.


And with a heavy heart, it was time to say goodbye to my mum.

After five wonderful weeks full of fun, connection, and learning, it was time for her to return home to my dad — who so graciously let her come — my disabled sister, who somehow just gets it that she is far away, and my other sister, who had her second baby while Mum was visiting us.

It’s never hard to welcome her into our home, but saying goodbye always leaves a big gap.


The third module of our Becoming More Self Sufficient course is happening next weekend — here at the Barn on Saturday and in Warrnambool on Monday.

This one focuses on Soil to Harvest – Planting Your Crops.
