Welcome Spring

Spring has officially arrived, and with it comes the mix of sunshine, showers, and plenty of jobs waiting to be done in the patch.
At the moment, we seem to have a good rhythm going: just as we head out ready to tackle something, along comes another big shower of rain.
But this isn’t the season to complain—every drop is welcome, and we’re grateful for it, even if it means shifting some of our work indoors.
In between the showers, we managed to weed a bed and tie up the broad beans before the wind had a chance to flatten them. The garlic also got a quick inspection on the way past, and I have to admit I’m quietly excited. After a couple of unsuccessful years, it looks like we might finally be winning with this crop!
Fridays are always a full day of baking and cooking in preparation for the weekend, but this week we also managed to squeeze in some seedling work. A little bit of pricking out here and there keeps the greenhouse filling up nicely.
Looking ahead, our next Patch to Plate Dinner is coming up quickly—Saturday, 13th September. Thanks to funding from Look Over the Farm Gate, tickets are just $20. On the menu: creamy carrot and apricot beef strips served with mash or Spätzle, a seasonal salad buffet, and sticky date pudding for dessert. Seats are limited, so be sure to book yours soon if you’d like to join us.
The Barn is open tomorrow from 11–5.
On the menu:
Coffee & Cake
Creamy Beef Mince & Spinach Pasta
Veggie Soup & Bread
See you at the Barn
