This week marked some exciting milestones as we planted out the eco garden, adding the finishing touches to this space that blends beauty, biodiversity, and functionality.
In the patch, we established two new beds of strawberries—one planted after the garlic came out, completing the transition from nursery to field. With the majority of seedlings now in the ground, the nursery is nearly empty, giving me a rare pause from daily watering.
I’ll enjoy a short break from growing seedlings until just after Christmas when preparations for winter vegetables begin.
For now, tidying up has become the main focus.
Planting always leaves behind a trail of trays, pots, and tools, and while we do our best to clean as we go, there’s always a bit of catching up to do. It feels good to reset and organize after the busy planting season.
The patch is thriving, and the list of fresh produce is steadily expanding again.
It’s rewarding to see everything growing so well, promising a bountiful harvest in the weeks to come.
On another note, we’re thrilled to now offer locally sourced beef from Old Township Farm in Panmure. Stephen and Kate, the farmers behind this honest and regenerative operation, take exceptional care of their land, animals, and processes.
Their commitment to sustainable farming aligns perfectly with our values, and we’re proud to stock their premium beef here at the Barn.
As we head into the festive season, it’s a great time to embrace all the abundance and hard work that go into growing and sourcing good food. Whether you’re visiting to pick up fresh produce or stocking up on beef for a hearty family meal, we’d love to see you at the Barn!
