A Week of Spring Work, Good Food and Special Moments
After an eventful Saturday with brunch, lunch and facilitating our third module of Becoming More Self-Sufficient, I think it was only fair to finish the day with wood-fired pizza!
We happened to have a table full of guests, most of whom were speaking German. It made for a special evening, with plenty of conversation and a lovely reminder of home. Certainly a night to remember!
The week itself was spent mostly in the garden patch. We planted more onions, covered the paths with straw, tidied up the flower patch and kept busy pricking out and sowing more seedlings.
There were also plenty of weeds to chase, as they certainly aren’t slowing down!
We continued to mulch in the patch, started working up the ground and applied compost. It’s all coming together, and it won’t be long before we can get planting in earnest.
On the dairy farm, harvesting and silage making continue, so there is certainly no shortage of work on either side of the business.
Thursday was a special and rather emotional day as we farewelled my mum. After four incredible weeks together, it was time to say goodbye. I’m thankful for every minute we had, and it was lovely to share so much time together. The good news has since come through that she made it home safely!
Friday was another full day in the kitchen, preparing everything for our usual Saturday trade and our final Swiss-inspired brunch for October.
