Balancing Seasons and Struggles

This week has been mentally draining as we’ve had to shift focus to our other business — our dairy farm.
With July 1st comes not only the start of a new financial year but also the announcement of our new milk price.
This is the time when budgets are reworked and decisions made, but this year feels particularly heavy.
Despite the greenery you might see, the reality is grim — the grass isn’t growing.
The drought conditions persist, and we’ve run out of homegrown fodder for our cows. Everything now has to be purchased in, and the prices are simply unsustainable.
Right now, it’s costing us more to feed our herd than we’re making from them.
It’s not just challenging; it’s incredibly stressful, and we’re feeling it in every way.
Back in the veggie patch, we did manage to clear some beds.
The weeds, at least, are thriving!
But small wins like this matter and remind us of what we can control.
We’ve added some new products to our shelf this week:
• Dried Lemons
• Dried Apple Rings
• Granola, now in new packaging
