Full house doesn’t even begin to describe our Patch to Plate dinner last Saturday — we overbooked and somehow ended up with 49 adults, 4 children, plus our own crew!
We may have run out of chairs, but we certainly didn’t run out of food, good company, or laughter.
Even with wild winds and wintery chill outside, the barn was buzzing and warm.
Out in the patch, things look a little different. The rain and cold make it tricky to prep soil or even imagine planting.
I find myself watching the forecast like a hawk and dreaming of that first stretch of dry weather so we can finally get seedlings into the ground.
Until then, the greenhouse is our refuge — and it’s bursting at the seams. Every time I walk in, I wonder how on earth we’re going to fit just one more crate of freshly potted plants… and then somehow we do.
While it’s too wet for veggie planting, we’re still keeping busy: chasing weeds that appear overnight, adding perennials around the property, and making our very first batch of elderflower cordial. If you love a refreshing drink — with tap water or even better with sparkling — grab a bottle or two.

Part of our self-sufficiency course, this module focuses on getting through the summer months with mulching and irrigation, plus practical herb garden maintenance and the use of herbs.
