From Warm Days to Wood Fire Mornings

There’s been a definite shift in the air this week. It began with that lingering warmth we’ve been holding onto, but as of today, the wood fire is crackling away in the big kitchen again — a gentle reminder that the seasons are turning.

Out in the patch, the tomatoes have had a good bit of attention. This time of year, it’s less about growth and more about focus — pulling back the excess greenery so the fruit can soak up every bit of sun available.

It’s a simple task, but one that makes all the difference in ripening those late-season harvests.

Between that, we’ve been preparing beds for next week’s garlic planting — a satisfying job that always feels like setting a quiet promise for the months ahead. A few weeds have come out along the way too, as they always do, keeping us honest and in rhythm with the garden.

Beyond the patch, this week also brought something quite special.

I had the honour of being invited to speak for International Women’s Day at Privico, sharing our story with their team.

It’s always a privilege to reflect on the journey and speak into spaces like that.

What made it even more meaningful was the setting itself. Dennington has a rich history — back in the early 1900s, Nestlé chose it as their very first site in Australia.

Walking through parts of the factory, especially the original main building, you can still see the Swiss architectural influence woven into the Australian landscape.

And in a moment that felt quietly meant to be, the team who invited me had no idea of my own Swiss roots.

Funny how things have a way of coming together like that.

What’s happening at the barn?

We’ve got a couple of beautiful gatherings coming up:

Easter Monday Brunch

A relaxed morning here at the barn to gather, eat, and enjoy the space.

8:30am – 12pm

Bookings essential

Patch to Plate “Mexican” Night

Saturday 11 April, 6pm

A seasonal spread inspired by Mexican flavours, built from what’s growing and available.

As always, the rhythm continues — a little slower, a little cooler, and deeply grounded in the season at hand.
