Holding Space & Finding Gentle Rhythm

This week brought with it news that stopped us in our tracks. We had to come to terms with the unexpected loss of our good friend, Brad.

Brad and his parents played a major role in shaping our life here in Australia. In many ways, our path into the dairy industry is tied closely to their support, guidance and friendship over the years. Their impact on our family runs deep.

Our son Timothy, who is currently working on their farm, has felt this loss especially hard. As a family we are holding space for grief, memories and gratitude — for the friendship shared and the journey walked alongside one another.

As always, the work in the patch continues. Sometimes — or maybe often — that is where a quiet kind of healing happens.

Hands in the soil, tending plants, keeping rhythm with the seasons… it brings a sense of steadiness when life feels otherwise fragile.

In amongst it all, we managed to keep a long-standing tradition and made our annual trip to the Otway Blueberry Farm. A good dose of fresh air and berry picking did us all good. Tomorrow we’ll have fresh blueberries available, along with frozen ones for those wanting to stock up.

We’re also nearly ready for tomorrow night’s Patch to Plate BBQ Feast. Only a couple of seats remain, so bookings are essential if you’d like to join us.

Looking a little further ahead:

Our second Open Garden with wood-fired pizzas is happening on Sunday 1. March, 10–4, with pizzas coming out of the oven from 12–2 (until sold out).

And Module Five of our Self Sufficiency Course — Preserving & Seed Saving — will be held here at the Barn on Saturday 21. February, 3–5pm.

A full week — in more ways than one.

See you at the Barn.
